Opening of first Reading Corner ‘Science Squirrel Club’
swissnex Shanghai donated books about Swiss science & technology to the reading corner in Ruijin Library.
The Science Squirrel Club was initially founded in Beijing with online members all
around China. With the vision of making science popular, the science squirrel
club is now setting up the reading corners on Popular Science around China and
the first corner is in Ruijin Library, Shanghai. swissnex Shanghai was invited to
take part in the opening ceremony and donated some books and DVD’s on
Swiss Science to their reading corner.
Mr. Wang Yue, Director of Association for Science & Technology, Lu Wan District,
Mr. Weng Weimin, the officer from Ruijin Community Arts Center together with
Ms. Li Qiao, Vice Director of Popular Science Writers Association attended the opening
and gave their speeches stressing the importance of science and technology for
the continued growth of the economy and the society.
On behalf of swissnex Shanghai, Ms. Karen Undritz, Executive Officer of swissnex
Shanghai delivered a short speech at the ceremony, representing the mission and
activities of swissnex Shanghai, with Ms. Cissy Sun translating it into Chinese. Furthermore,
Ms. Undritz also explained the content of books and DVD’s we gave to the reading
corner and expressed the willingness in building up long-term cooperation between
swissnex Shanghai and Science Squirrel Club. Over 120 participants joined the opening
ceremony, among them were researchers, scientific publishers and students.
