ISMAR 2011
The 10th IEEE International Symposium on mixed and augmented reality took place in Basel, Switzerland.
Mixed Reality (MR) and Augmented Reality (AR) allow the creation of fascinating new types of user interfaces, and are beginning to show significant impact on industry and society. The field is highly interdisciplinary, bringing together signal processing, computer vision, computer graphics, user interfaces, human factors, wearable computing, mobile computing, computer networks, displays, sensors, to name just some of the most important influences. MR/AR concepts are applicable to a wide range of applications. Since 1998, ISMAR and its forerunner events, IWAR/ISAR and ISMR, have been the premier forums in this vital field.
This year we are proud to present the 2011 IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR 2011). The symposium will be held on Oct. 26 - 29, 2011 at Messe Basel, in Basel, Switzerland.
The conference week was a great success and offered various opportunity for many new projects and futuer collaborations.
The Chinese artist WU Juehui, teacher at the China Academy of Art was one of the highlights in the art exhibition part. His work is avery speical device consisting of a mask and a handheld camera, the mask is a head mounted display. While the user is wearing the mask and looking around the scenes are captured by the camera and sent to the mask. Like this the user can get a feeling of separation of the eyes and head.
For the organizers of the ISMAR 2011 the vital exchange between the Chinese and the other participants was very imporant. With rapid development of China, the contribution of Chinese scientists in the field of augmented reality will grow in the future.
