Swissnex Shanghai, Switzerland's outpost for science, technology and culture in China, is an initiative of the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Similar institutions are located in Boston, San Francisco and Singapore. Our goal is to fully exploit the potential of cooperation between Switzerland and the respective host countries in the fields of higher education, research, technology, innovation and culture and to promote Switzerland as a leading country in those domains.

Biotechnology, material sciences, and environment/sustainability have been designated the priority areas during the pilot phase of the SSSTC program. In 2008-2011, the priority areas will be expended to include:

·         Life sciences/biotechnology

·         Environment/urban development and sustainability

·         Material sciences

·         Medicinal Sciences

Researchers with excellent projects that fall outside of the described areas, such in social sciences and humanities, are nevertheless strongly encouraged to apply.
