Swissnex Shanghai, Switzerland's outpost for science, technology and culture in China, is an initiative of the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Similar institutions are located in Boston, San Francisco and Singapore. Our goal is to fully exploit the potential of cooperation between Switzerland and the respective host countries in the fields of higher education, research, technology, innovation and culture and to promote Switzerland as a leading country in those domains.

October 20^th through 24^th was Italian week at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. swissnex applied sciences and R&D expert Claudio Boer was invited by the Swiss Consulate in Guangzhou. Mr Boer gave a talk, the topic of which was “la piazza”, that was attended by more than 60 students and several professors of the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies Italian program.

The students showed great interest in the Swiss educational system and some of the questions they raised concerned how to apply for study in Switzerland, what scholarships are available and how the Swiss educational system works. Swiss Consul General of Guangzhou Mr Werner Nievergelt and Mr Boer held discussions with the students and provided more information about the Swiss educational system.

The organizer of Italian week was the Italian Consulate but, as a country whose official language is also Italian, Switzerland was of course invited to actively participate.
