Swissnex Shanghai, Switzerland's outpost for science, technology and culture in China, is an initiative of the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Similar institutions are located in Boston, San Francisco and Singapore. Our goal is to fully exploit the potential of cooperation between Switzerland and the respective host countries in the fields of higher education, research, technology, innovation and culture and to promote Switzerland as a leading country in those domains.

The Open Doors event held on October 18 with the theme of “Swiss Culture for Our Children” was a great success. The half-day affair was co-organized by swissnex Shanghai, the Consulate General of Switzerland and the Swiss Club and was attended by 37 kids and 43 parents.

Three groups of kids participated in a parcours through the Consulate General and Swissnex. At different posts along the way, they learned about the mission and work of both institutions.

The 13 to 17 year-olds watched a DVD about Swiss cultural identity and had a discussion about their own sense of Swiss identity.  The group of 7-12 year-olds completed the circuit throughout the Consulate and Swissnex while the third group, comprised of infants to six year-olds, played, sang Swiss songs and painted in a special “kids corner” that had been set up at the Consulate.

Parents attended a lecture about swissnex given by Lan Zuo Gillet and, after the kids finished their parcours, they took a tour of the Consulate that was followed by drinks and a light buffet.
